Groups & Clubs in Wigginton
The Flying Ducks Theatre Group, children’s sections meet at the
Old School Wigginton on Monday and Tuesday late pm-early evening
term time. The Quacks group on Monday and Tuesday between 4pm and
5pm and the Little Ducklings on Monday evening 5-15 to 6-16pm.
IAIDO MARTIAL ARTS
Iaido Martial Arts Group meet each Friday evening throughout the
year at the Old School between 8pm and 9-30pm.
OAKEN GROVE YOUTH AND COMMUNITY CENTRE
Oaken Grove Youth and Community Centre based at the end of Ellis
Avenue (Oaken Grove) Haxby, offers a wide range of educational and
leisure activities for local people in Haxby and Wigginton (and
York). As well as hosting community groups, local businesses and
local services, a very active group of volunteers organise weekly
activities for the benefit of local people of all ages and
abilities. It holds sessions for young people in the Old School.

Shine 21 is a charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of
children with Downs Syndrome and is passionate about supporting
their families. Shine 21 meets term time every Monday and Tuesday
morning from 9-30-12-30 at the Old School Wigginton providing
regular development sessions with trained speech and language
therapist, and physiotherapy and personal needs support- as well as
lots of fun activities.
Silver Swans will meet every Friday morning commencing in
September 2021 from 10-11am, at the Old School Wigginton. The
classes play such an important role in the elderly community through
the benefits of dance. This helps to combat anatomical issues
associated with the aging process and to stave off degenerative
conditions such as dementia, falls prevention and social isolation.
The Old School Wigginton hosts two (2) separate Spiritualist
meeting each week. Sensing Spirits meets Wednesday evenings 7-15-9
(except the 3rd Wednesday of the month) and on the third Sunday
evening each month. Whilst Simon Peters, Spiritualist leader holds
his meetings every Thursday evening between 6-30 -9 30.

SUE CLAYTON ART
Award winning local artist Sue Clayton will be introducing two
(2) new exciting art courses each Thursday in September 2021 at the
Old School Wigginton. Painting and Drawing 10-12 noon and Purely
Each themed six-week course will include art demonstrations and delve into art history as the groups explore artists and movements inspiring your own artwork.
The groups are fun, relaxed, friendly and most welcoming and open to all from absolute beginners to selling artist.

Tiny Stompers meets on a periodic basis at the Old School
Wigginton providing a baby massage service. The sessions are very
relaxing with basic to advanced techniques taught in every class aid
to bonding and child development. Techniques are also shown to help
decrease pain caused by colic, constipation and teething. The
service is also held around York and in own homes.

U3A CAMERA CLUB (occasional) and U3A LINE DANCING

The WEA meet on a Wednesday afternoon between 2-4pm at the Old
School Wigginton, for Greek language tutoring, and on Wednesday at
2-4pm at the St Nicholas Church Hall for the History Group. These
very friendly groups invite new members. The WEA also offers a whole
range of course held at various locations around York.
WING CHU KUNG FU
Wing Chu Kung Fu, the Chinese Martial Arts group, meets every
Monday evening at the Old School Wigginton between 7-30 and 9pm.
Established in 2001 the class is taught by a resident Sifu who has a
diverse background in the martial arts. This is a simple, direct and
highly effective martial art, ideal for self-defence.
YORK CITY FC FOUNDATION-MEMORIES
York City FC Foundation runs a weekly session every Monday from
1-2-30pm at the Old School Wigginton using sport as a vehicle to
talk. The aim of the sessions is to bring people out of their homes,
providing the opportunity to share York City stories and chat about
current affairs with like-minded people creating a network of peer
YORK VINTAGE DANCE GROUP
York Vintage Dance Group meet at various York Locations including
the Old School Wigginton and Wigginton Recreation Hall. The
Community Dance Group promotes, demonstrates and teaches adult dance
classes in a social and relaxed environment, covering a wide range
of individual and partner dances from the 1920’s to the 1940’s and
50’s. In addition, they arrange themed dance nights, social
evenings, outings and displays.
York City FC Foundation
Host a Sporting memories coffee morning three times a week in and
around the York Area. This is open to all but primarily designed to
Support older people in the UK that are at risk of becoming
isolated, Sporting Memories encourages those that attend to recall
positive memories that are rekindled through the means of sport.
This social activity is dementia friendly and strives to help members of the local community come together and share their stories. Not only do we chat but we also dabble in a spot of boccia or darts and the occasional quiz. Each week is very different!
The weekly event costs nothing to attend and there is always a selection of biscuits to go down well with a free hot drink.

Speakers at the meetings will talk on various subjects and there will be a related competition.

Wigginton Bowling Club
A friendly locally based club which plays lawn bowls from April
to September, for ladies, gents and mixed teams. Welcome beginners

Wing Chun Kung Fu
A Chinese Martial Art which is said to originate from a
Shaolin Nun some 400 years ago. It is a fast, efficient and
devastatingly effective form of self defence, and thanks to Bruce
Lee who studied Wing Chun in Hong King before movie stardom, it has
become the most popular and widely taught form of Kung Fu throughout
the world today. Established in 2001, our class in The Old School,
Wigginton, is held every Monday (except Bank Holidays) from 7.00 to

Haxby Toddlers is a friendly group based at Wigginton Old School. It is on a Tuesday morning from 9.30-11. All children from babies to pre-school age are welcome. They will be able to take part in themed activities and enjoy a healthy snack, while parents enjoy refreshments. Parents and carers will be able to spend time getting to know each other, while playing with their little ones. We run at term time only, paid in half-termly blocks. The cost is £1 per week for under 1’s and £3 per week for over 1’s (and £3 per week for multiple children).
